Scaling down a graphic in Adobe Illustrator results in a thick stroke. Can this be changed?

Maintaining stroke width when scaling down Illustrator graphic

Photoshop questions Is there a way to keep the stroke width the same relatively when scaling a graphic in Illustrator?

Photoshop tips

Depending on the type of result you want, the stroke and effects behaviours can be changed in the Adobe Illustrator General Preferences. By default, when an object is resized in Illustrator, the stroke and any effects are preserved at the same size.

To change this behaviour so that everything scales relative to the object size, bring up the General Preferences dialog box by going to the Illustrator menu and selecting Preferences -> General. Alternatively you can use the keyboard shortcut Command + K on a Mac, or Control + K on a Windows PC. Then check the box titled Scale Strokes & Effects and Click OK. Now when you resize an object in Illustrator, the strokes will maintain the same size ratio as the rest of the object.
