Applying a gradient to a stroke in Illustrator

Illustrator questionsHow do I apply a gradient to a stroke in Illustrator CS3?

Illustrator tips

It is not possible to apply a gradient effect directly to a stroke in Adobe Illustrator. However, it is certainly possible to achieve a similar effect with a little workaround.

You will need to select the object and then go to the Object menu item. From the menu select Path and then Outline Stroke. You can then select the outlined stroke with the Direct Selection Tool and apply the gradient of your choice.
