Using OpenType fonts with Adobe Illustrator 8 can cause problems.

New fonts will not show up in Adobe Illustrator 8

Illustrator questionsI have installed a new OpenType font, but it will not show up in the Illustrator 8 menu bar. The font works fine in other applications.

Illustrator tips

Adobe Illustrator 8 does not support OpenType fonts.

There are a few options. The most straightforward is to upgrade to a later version of Adobe Illustrator. Version 9 upwards will work with OpenType fonts, but it may now only be possible to upgrade to version CS3.

It may be worth asking the supplier who sold you the font if you can swap the license for a PostScript or TrueType font. Otherwise, there may be font conversion utilities that will convert OpenType fonts to Postscript or Truetype. But again, it is worth checking that your software licence allows this.
