Manipulating type on a path is one of the most useful, yet sometimes tricky, aspects of Adobe Illustrator. Flipping type on a path options
When I initially place text on path using a circle it always applies itself to the baseline on the concave/outside edge. How do I align the text to the inside, or convex, part of the circle?
The Adobe Illustrator Type on a Path Tool does indeed initially place text onto the outside of an object's path, creating a concave text effect. This technique is especially useful for creating circular text-based logos. However, the option for aligning the text to the bottom of the circular shape, so as to create a convex effect is not always obvious to new users of Adobe Illustrator. The solution is actually very easy. First, select the object and then go to the Type menu. Select Type on a Path and then Type on a Path Options… In the resulting dialogue box, select the Flip checkbox option and click OK. You may need to rotate the object to centre the text, but otherwise the aim has been achieved.
