Quark releases the missing Photoshop import Xtension

Quark has finally released the long awaited Photoshop PSD Import Xtension for QuarkXpress 6.5. This Xtension, which was missing from the original release of the 6.5 update, allows users to import native PSD Photoshop files straight into QuarkXpress and switch between layers, channels and adjust cutout paths directly in the page layout program. Design Talkboard's initial tests have found PSD Import to be stable and very fast. We only wish that it had been ready with the original 6.5 update (as misleadingly announced by Quark).

The ability to import native Photoshop files is one of the few areas that Xpress has been seen to be lacking, in the DTP page layout features war with Adobe InDesign. It will be interesting to see what Adobe's next move will be.
