Browser wars create more work for web designers! |
Firefox among the chickens

The rise in the use of web browsers other than Internet Explorer, is threatening to create more work for web designers and developers. It's always been a balancing act for web designers, when it comes to ensuring that a web site is compatible across different browsers and computer platforms. Up until recently, that job was fairly easy with Microsoft's Internet Explorer dominating the market with nearly 95% of the share. This made it tempting for designers to simply ensure that a web site worked for IE and not worry too much about the 'others'.
However, user dissatisfaction with IE security issues and, in particular, the success of the open source browser Firefox, has meant that other browsers can no longer be ignored by web designers.
Web analysis company WebSideStory, have revealed that the use of Internet Explorer has fallen to around 90%, with Firefox gaining nearly all of the overflow. This is the first major setback for Microsoft in the browser wars, since they overtook Netscape in the late 1990's.
