Web design terminology beginning with the letter N
Nameservers
A nameserver is a computer server that is able to convert (resolve) the name of a domain - such as designtalkboard.com - into its corresponding IP address (and visa versa).
Netiquette
Slang term for a series of modes of behaviour that someone using any number of internet protocols - email, discussion forums and so on - is expected to observe. In many ways, it is a quaint hangover from the early days of the internet, but it is not a bad set of rules to follow.
Netiquette would include not abusing another user on a talk forum - known as flaming - and not sending, or posting, spam.
Netscape browser
Netscape was once the main graphical web browser on the internet. This has since been overtaken my Microsoft's Internet Explorer.
Network
A network is a system of interconnected computers that are capable of exchanging information with each other. A network can be as small as two or three computers 'daisy-chained' to each other with cables. On the other hand, a network can be as large as a huge corporation with dedicated file servers and email systems, spanning many offices around the Globe. The largest network system in the World is, of course, the internet.
