Macromedia's web oriented digital image editor. A rival to Adobe's ImageReady for creating and optimizing graphics for the web. Fireworks is a fully featured digital images editor. But it has never gained the acceptance amongst professional web designers that Photoshop and ImageReady have.
But Fireworks does have its fans, who point out that it has far better vector graphics handling than Photoshop. With the recent takeover of Macromedia, by Adobe, it remains to be seen what Fireworks status will become.
Flash
extend. ActionScript, Macromedia, .swf file format
Flash is a multimedia program developed by software developer Macromedia (who were recently bought by Adobe). Its initial primary purpose was to enable animated images to be small enough in file size, so as to download quickly over the internet. Flash achieved this by using vector graphics to build its animations, as opposed to bitmap animation.
Flash has quickly developed into a full-blown vector animation program. With the growth of broadband, some web designers are using Flash to create whole web sites, with embedded video graphics, games and other complicated interactive features. Interactivity is built into Flash, by web developers, using a form of scripting called ActionScript.

Frontpage
A Microsoft HTML web page editing program. Not really a professional product and also very limited in functionality. Professional web designers will generally avoid using Frontpage, because it locks the developer into using the application, by producing proprietary code that is messy to edit by hand.
Front end
The front end of a web site is the visual design, look and feel of the web site. It can also, arguably, be applied to the technology that runs directly from the web page itself, such as javascript or HTML, as opposed to back-end technology that runs behind the scenes on the web server.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
An internet protocol that allows files to be uploaded and downloaded from an internet-based server. Probably the most popular method of uploading web site files used by web designers.
