Keyboard shortcuts are when a combination of keyboard keys are pressed to affect an action in a particular software application. For example. on an Apple Mac computer pressing the 'Command' key and then the letter 'A', will select all the available text. On a Windows PC the equivalent keyboard command would be initiated by using the 'Control' key.

Keyboard shortcut are especially useful when formatting documents in page layout programs such as QuarkXpress. Used in combination with style sheets an experienced page layout artist can format a document very quickly.
