Xara has released Xtreme Pro, a graphics program with traditional page layout as well as interactive graphics and graphics files integration and interchange. This release claims better pre-press capabilites as well as the easy creation of vector graphics.

MagicTracer 2.0

MagicTracer is a Windows bitmap to vector conversion program. The latest version of MagicTracer contains new features including line smoothing and support for new graphics formats such as Encapsulated Postscript (.EPS), Scalable Vector Graphics (.SVG), Enhanced Metafiles (.EMF) and Photoshop files (.PSD).

Strata 3D CX 5.0 Enhanced

Strata has added numerous enhancements to its Mac and Window 3D design application. Unlike many 3D design applications Strata 3D has been a long time favourite for print desigenrs and it is well integrated with many of Adobe CS software tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator.

Extensis Quark Xtensions

Extensis have released a free font auto-activation Xtension update for its font management suite of tools, including Suitcase Fusion, Suitcase Server and Font Reserve Server. This update allows fonts to be automatically activated within QuarkXpress 7 and is now also runs native under Intel-based Macs.

Adobe Creative Suite 2.3

Adobe has released the latest updates to the Premium version of it's graphics package Creative Suite, version 2.3. As well as containing full versions of its primary design tools, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive and Dreamweaver. Adobe CS 2.3 also includes the latest version of Acrobat 8 and Version Cue CS2, Adobe Bridge and Adobe Stock Photos.

Quark to InDesign

Markzware have updated their InDesign plugin Q2ID, which converts QuarkXPress files created on either Windows or Macintosh systems, into new Adobe InDesign documents. The new version can now convert QuarkXpress 7 files.

Aperture 1.5.1

Apple has released Aperture 1.5.1, its post-production tool for photographers, which addresses a number of reliability and performance issues.

Adobe Acrobat 8 available

Adobe have announced the official release of Acrobat version 8. First announced in September Acrobat 8 Professional is available for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X, and Acrobat 8 Standard for Windows and are available immediately.

The Mac OS X version of Acrobat 8 Professional is a Universal Binary that will install on Intel Macs and PowerPC based Macintosh computers.

Adobe digital camera Raw 3.6 released

Adobe has released version 3.6 of Camera Raw, its professional photographers software for converting Raw camera formats for use in Photoshop.

The latest version adds support for many new cameras, including the Canon
EOS 400D (Rebel XTi/EOS Kiss Digital X); Fuji FinePix S6000fd and FinePix S9100/9600; Leica D-LUX 3, Digilux 3 and V-LUX 1; the Nikon D80; Olympus, E400 and SP-510 UZ; the Panasonic DMC-LX2; Pentax K100D and K110D and the Samsung GX-1L.

Boot Camp update from Apple

Apple has provided an update to Boot Camp, the software that allows Intel-based Macintosh computers to run the Windows XP operating system. Boot Camp version 1.1.2 beta provides fixes, improved functionality and support for some new hardware including, keyboard functions, built-in iSight cameras, built-in microphones and the Apple USB Modem.

Boot Camp is available for download from the Apple web site.
