Apple's Boot Camp updated for Vista

Apple has updated its virtualization software tool Boot Camp, which allows Intel Macintosh computers to run the Microsoft Windows operating system. Boot Camp 1.2, which is still in beta, will now run Windows Vista. Boot Camp 1.2 also supports a number of other enhancements including new drivers for trackpad, AppleTime, audio, graphics, the modem and iSight camera.

Adobe Creative Suite 3 (CS3) details announced

Adobe has announced details of the forthcoming release of Adobe CS3. Creative Suite 3 is the next release of Adobe's premier desktop publishing and web graphics batch of tools. CS3 will complete the amalgamation of Macromedia's product line, such as Dreamweaver and Flash, into Adobe's own bundle of software. The suite of tools will come in six separate software bundles, targeted at designers involved in print graphics, website designers, and interactive and broadcast production professionals.

Beta of Flightcheck preflighting software for the Mac

Markzware, have published a beta preview of their preflighting software tool, FlightCheck 6. Version 6 of FlightCheck will work with QuarkXPress 7 and is Universal Binary for both PowerPC and Intel Mac computers.

Apple releases updates for OS X Panther 10.3.9 and Tiger 10.4.9

Apple has released updates for both its current operating system Tiger OS X 10.4.9 and also its legacy Panther operating system OS X 10.3.9. The panther update is primarily a security update for a number of services including ColorSync, the Flash Player Plug-in, CoreGraphics and QuickDraw.

The Tiger OS X 10.4.9 update is primarily a bug fix and offers enhancements to a number of tools including Bluetooth, iSync and network performance.

Vue 6 Easel, Esprit and Pro Studio

E-on software, has released a complete range of products for 3D designers and artists. This ranges from the entry-level Vue 6 Easel and Esprit applications, to Vue 6 Pro Studio, which is aimed at 3D more advanced creatives. The new products are intended to sit alongside e-on software’s professional solutions, Vue 6 Infinite and Vue 6 xStream, which were released in February.

Quark to give away free Xtensions

Quark Inc., has announced that it will post a free download of XPert Tools Pro XTensions for QuarkXPress 7 on its website at the beginning of April. The Xtensions, formally published by A Lowly Apprentice Production who were bought by Quark over a year ago, include XPert FindChange, XPert ItemStyles, XPert Pilot, XPert Scale and XPert Guides.

Microsoft announces new digital file format

Software publisher Microsoft has announced a new graphics image format called HD Photo. First announced as Windows Media Photo last year, Microsoft claims that the HD Photo file format offers up to twice the efficiency of JPEG, with less degradation in image quality as the result of compression, which will result in higher-quality digital images at half the file size.

Microsoft has released beta versions of some HD Photo plugins for Adobe Photoshop which allow users to read and write HD Photo files from within Photoshop and also include support for high dynamic range pixel formats. The HD Photo plugins support the new Photoshop CS3 beta as well as the current CS2 of the software and will be released as Universal Binaries for Mac OS X and also Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows XP. The finished versions of the plugins are expected to be released within the next two months.

QuarkXpress for Windows Vista

Quark Inc., publisher of DTP software QuarkXpress, has announced that it will provide a free download of a Windows Vista enabled version of QuarkXpress 7 for registered users.

The Quark update will add Vista specific features which will include picture effects and composition zones. It will also take advantage of new technologies, such as the Windows Color System, XPS printer support and Windows Imaging Components. It is expected that the update will be available later this month.

Bitstream Pageflex Persona

Font publisher Bitstream has released Pageflex Persona Cross Media Suite 2007. Pageflex Persona is a desktop application for variable publishing across the web or on an intranet. It offers modules to allow the addition of new features as required, including data merging, form-driven customization, online design and editing and
cross media campaigns.
