Design software updates and upgrades 2007Graphics software releases, January 2007Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.0 After a long time as a beta product, it is now finally possible to pre-order Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.0. Adobe has announced that it expects to ship the software in the middle of February 2007. Photoshop Lightroom allows photographers to import, manage and present large volumes of digital photographic images. 29 January 2007 MadeToPrint XT for QuarkXpress 7 Printing & file exporting automating Xtension, MadeToPrint XT, has been updated for QuarkXPress 7. The update supports QuarkXPress 7.1 Universal Binary for Mac OS X and also the Windows version. 27 January 2007
Flash Player 9 for Linux Version 9 of the Flash player for Linux operating systems, has been released by Adobe. It is available as a download from Adobe. 20 January 2007 Adobe Bridge CS3 Beta 2 Adobe have released an update to the beta version of Adobe Bridge. This update to the CS3 organizational program, which links different applications from the Creative Suite, fixes a number of bugs and also adds multiple monitor support and increased file format support, including JPEG TIFF ACR editing. Adobe Bridge CS3 beta 2 is available from Adobe Labs. 20 January 2007 Autodesk Maya 8.5, 3D software Autodesk have announced the release of version 8.5 of Maya, the 3D modeling, rendering and animation application. Maya claim that this upgrade speeds up a number of funtions, including complex animation and simulation tasks. This version is also the first to natively support Intel-based Macintosh computers. 16 January 2007 Adobe Reader security fix Adobe has released an update for its Reader application, following reports of several serious security issues, including a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability on Windows. All users are recommended to update to the Acrobat Reader version 8. Earlier versions of the paid-for Acrobat Standard and Pro products are also said to be affected. It appears, at this stage, that these products may need to be upgraded to the latest version to secure them. 12 January 2007 Parallels Desktop for Mac Update Release Candidate gets USB 2.0 Parallels Desktop for Mac, which allows Intel-based Macs to run Windows or Linux within OS X, has been upgraded to Release Candidate (RC) status. The RC update introduces two new features, USB 2.0 support – including CD and DVD burning in virtual machines – and improved drag and drop functionality. The new drag and drop feature allows users to share documents and applications between operating systems. The Parallels software update also supports a new feature called Transporter which allows Windows machines, such as Virtual PC, to be migrated to a Parallels virtual machine running under Mac OS X, without having to reinstall the operating system or any other software. 12 January 2007 Google Sketchup 6.0 Google has released version 6 of its 3D modeling software application for creating presentations. Sketchup allows the integration of 3D models with 2D graphic elements such photographs, digital artwork and even textual copy. 11 January 2007 QuarkXpress 7.1 Quark Inc. has released a Universal Binary version of QuarkXPress 7.1. The update predominantly targets various performance issues and bugs. 10 January 2007 Artist's Butler 2.1.3 Artist's Butler is a studio management software tool for artists. It helps artists manage the business side of their career, from managing resumes and CVs, to keeping mailing lists up-to-date, to preparing price lists. Artist's Butler is available for Mac OS X and Windows PCs, but the new version, 2.1.3, is for Macs. 5 January 2007 Cheetah3D 3.6 3D modeling software application Cheetah3D has been updated to version 3.6. The new version offers a rewritten timeline with a number of new features, including auto-keying, timeline scroller, faster OpenGL preview of complex meshes and advanced keying masks. It also fixes some bugs. 4 January 2007 Fractal Domains version 2.0 goes universal binary Fractal Domains 2.0, a shareware program that generates fractal images, is finally out of beta after three years. As a universal binary application it will now run at full speed on on Intel based Macs. The program is now also multithreaded. This allows it to take full advantage of multiple processor computers. 3 January 2007
