The three day event was held in Lyon in France between March 17th to March 19th 206 and managed to pick up some impressive sponsors, including Hewlett Packard, Xara and O'Reilly (the software guide book publishers).
Some of the free graphics applications featured and evaluated included GIMP (a Photoshop style image editor), Inkscape (a vector drawing application), Scribus (a DTP program) and Blender (a 3D design tool).
LGM was intended to be a meeting place for free software graphics developers and designers meeting each other, exchanging ideas and graphics tips and discussing the potential of free graphics applications.
Graphics professionals interested in learning about the state of free software also attended and the organizers stressed before the event that: "The conference will be all about participation. Artists and developers, feel free to bring your laptops and tablets, and show us what you can (and can't) do".
The first Libre Graphics Meeting was held on 17, 18 and 19 March 2006 in Lyon, France in the Ecole d'Ingénieurs CPE on the university campus at La Doua, Villeurbannes. More details are available from the Libre Graphics Meeting web site.
