Graphics industry news

Adobe completes Macromedia acquisition

Adobe have announced that their purchase of web graphics software publisher Macromedia has been finalized.

The combination of the two companies creates one of the World's largest software companies and certainly makes Adobe the biggest player in the graphics software industry.

The integration of Macromedia into the Adobe stable allows the graphics software company to build on its plans for interactive digital content, based on its own PDF technology and combined with Macromedia's Flash.

The integration of the two companies has already started and Adobe has announced three new design software bundles aimed to combine the tools of both their own Creative Suite 2 and Adobe video tools with Macromedia Flash Professional 8 and Macromedia Studio 8 software. Adobe plans to target a number of technologies ranging from mobile devices, through to servers.

For those designers that were worried that their favorite products might disappear, it seems that, for the moment, GoLive has received a reprieve. However, Macromedia's flagship vector drawing rival to Illustrator - Freehand - is nowhere to be found.
