Graphics ready Mac eight-core desktop computer, with two Quad-Core Intel Xeon Clovertown processors. Apple releases 3GHz, 8-core graphics Mac Pro workstationApple has released the latest addition to its professional desktop computer range. The 3GHz eight-core Intel Xeon-based Mac Pro features two Quad-Core Intel Xeon Clovertown processors. In addition to the new chips the 8-core Mac Pro contains numerous features that will appeal to high-end graphic artists, such as Photoshop retouchers, broadcast and multimedia producers and 3D designers. The new desktop Macs allow for hard disk expansion to three terabytes (3TB), spread over four possible internal disk drives. Like previous models of the Mac Pro, there are 8 DIMM slots that allow memory upgrades up to a maximum of 16GB of RAM. There are also four PCI Express card slots, allowing expansion for numerous peripherals, such as extra graphics cards, SCSI devices and sound cards. And speaking of graphics cards, the base setup comes with a choice of three graphics card options. The NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT (with 256MB of SDRAM) is for general 2D graphic design use, the ATI Radeon X1900 XT (which has 512MB of SDRAM) may be worth considering for creatives who specialize in animation or motion graphics. The third graphics card is the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 (also with 512MB of SDRAM), which is aimed at high-end users and provides a 3D stereo graphics port for stereo-in-a-window applications. Each of these cards allows the connection of dual monitor displays, one of which can be Apple's own 30" Cinema HD display (which is obviously an optional – and not cheap – option).
