Kodak's new inkjet printers and cost-effective inksKodak have announced a new line in ink-jet printers that use ink consumables that they claim will save consumers up to 50 percent on everything that they print. Most small office and home-working design freelancers will be aware of the high cost of replacing inkjet cartridges. Kodak's announcement that they have developed a range of low-end inkjet printers that use an affordable range of ink cartridges is surely good news. Kodak's new range of all-in-one Easyshare printers, utilise the new print cartridge technology and go on sale in the USA shortly. Although aimed predominantly at the home consumer market, the all-in-one printers could be utilised by home-office designers and photographers. The printers also feature a built in scanner and copying facilities. Kodak claim that the new printers, combined with the new ink technology, will enable users to print laboratory quality photographic images using premium, pigment-based inks, that will save up to 50 percent of the cost. Kodak claim that; "For every $15 spent on color ink and $10 spent on black ink, consumers can print the same number of pages at half the cost of other consumer inkjet printers." Inkjets consumables are usually very expensive and for higher volume print work, a laser printer will generally work out a cheaper option. The Kodak Easyshare all-in-one printers will be available in March 2007. The cheapest starts at US$149.99, rising to US$299.99 for the top model. 6 February 2007 Laser and inkjet printer related forum discussions
